Gull

Need help identifying a bird? Please post your question here and if possible include a photo. Also let us know where and when you saw the bird. Other things that help are listing any field marks that stood out, behavioral information like how it walked, hopped or flew. This Forum is just for North American birds.

Location?
Pale iris should rule out Cali, and it’s way paler than any Ringer I’ve seen. That leaves Thayer’s and Herring. Oddly, if the bill was small I’d think Short-billed.
Life - 590: Bullock’s Oriole, Tundra Bean-Goose, Western Tanager
Tennessee - 340: Black-capped Chickadee, Ruffed Grouse, Green-tailed Towhee
Rutherford - 248: Laughing Gull, Red-throated Loon, Common Merganser

I can't offer an ID. I agree it's paler than a Ringer, and I think the bill isn't bulky enough for a Herring.

I resisted the urge to post asking for confirmation that these were Long-billed Curlews:

Gulls are hard enough as it is 😂 should’ve looked at the water more closely

Yeah and this gull had me stumped for a while with how dainty it seemed but seems like if I’m confused it’s probably a herring😆
