Russell Burgess Coastal Preserve, the northeast coast of South Carolina. 12 May 2026.
I was screwing with 'bird in flight' shots today, attempting to capture anything that flew by. This was in the bunch.
I see a strong white stripe down the middle of the back, flanked by blackish-brown back stripes. Weak white bars separate the back stripes from brown patches on the top of each wing. Those brown patches are also bordered by white along the back side of the wings. The rump is white, with a tail that appears to alternate black-white-black. I was concentrating on staying on the bird so I didn't notice if it made any sound.
Ruddy Turnstone? I did see one working the oyster beds. Thanks.
