3 birds from a hike today I'm stuck on

Need help identifying a bird? Please post your question here and if possible include a photo. Also let us know where and when you saw the bird. Other things that help are listing any field marks that stood out, behavioral information like how it walked, hopped or flew. This Forum is just for North American birds.

3 birds from a hike today I'm stuck on

Post by MtnAg08 »

Went for a hike to Beaver Lake above Beaver Creek, CO today and there are 3 birds I saw I'm just not any confidence in trying to find something to start trying to ID them. One the photo is pretty crummy as I'm basically under it shooting up so that one may be a lost cause. The other 2 I feel like I got decent shots so hopefully you experts can steer me right. Thanks!

Thanks. I've seen this one twice before. Don't know why it's not sticking with me. Usually once I've spotted and IDed one I'm good at picking it out the next time.

I think of Townsend's as a Northern Mockingbird with a shorter bill and no wing bars.

Good way to think of it. I was actually thinking (hoping) one of these might be a Northern Mockingbird but it didn't seem to match up with the photos I was seeing.

First bird is a Chipping Sparrow. The rest are Townsend's Solitaires.
