What Bird Is That Forum

Neither for me this week.

A flock of about 15-20 Eared Grebes were in my local park's pond at the end of April one day. I'm assuming they got pushed down by the snow the night before. They were gone the next day and is the only time I've seen them in this area. Glad to have one this week after seeing my first Green-Tailed Towhee last week and just missing out from the week before.

Oddly, the Random Bird Selector kicked out Inca Dove this morning, but I decided against doves on consecutive weeks.

No problem! I do have a few pics of an Eared Grebe, very rare here, but we spotted one during the 2019 Christmas Bird Count in Panajachel in January, 2020. (No Western Sandpipers.)

Good morning, Whatbirders! The Random Bird Selector (trademark pending) first tossed out a shorebird with a narrow distribution. I ran it a few more times until it gave a second bird with a close-to-continental range.

Hope it's ok but this photo isn't from the US/Canada. I got it on Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos this February. The trip is what piqued my interest in birding and led me to start the hobby this spring. Caught the bird pulling a fish out of the water. I got a ton of shots but I think this one is my favorite. It was hard to decide.

Fish and greens for dinner?

Just the Heron for me.

Long-time members probably knew this shot would be my choice.

Tough choice but went with this one from a sequence of a juvenile from 2021. It flew back to shore carrying the turtle and then spent a lot of time trying various turtle holds before eventually giving up. No turtles were harmed (it did look confused) during this event.

Went to Lox at least three times to see the owlets and never did. Saw mom and dad two times.

The Screech is part of a pair from a local park. They've been there for a couple years now. This is the male, the female is a redhead.The Thrasher was at Edwin Forsythe NWR in south Jersey a couple years ago. An amazingly cooperative bird. At points it was to close for the camera to focus & it almost walked over my shoes at one point.
