Bering had them labelled as "Black Hawk". eBird doesn't show any sightings anywhere near Arizona, but it certainly looks like a Great Black Hawk. Is there anything I'm missing?

I know when I vacationed at the Grand Canyon, I got a pic of a similar looking bird and this site identified it as a zone tailed hawk. Don't have anything like it in New Jersey, so I'm no expert. Could this be a zone tailed hawk?

Bumping up the brightness and contrast to bring out the white on the underside, I think you're probably right.Sbruenjes wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2026 2:36 am I know when I vacationed at the Grand Canyon, I got a pic of a similar looking bird and this site identified it as a zone tailed hawk. Re: Great Black Hawk?
It's a Common Black Hawk, which is the expected species of Black Hawk in the ABA area. I think there are only 2 records of Great Black Hawk if I'm not forgetting any individuals.

Okay, that makes even more sense.Aidan B wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2026 9:07 am It's a Common Black Hawk, which is the expected species of Black Hawk in the ABA area. I think there are only 2 records of Great Black Hawk if I'm not forgetting any individuals.
