We were just invited on a cruise to Bermuda in August. We'll have three days in port - most of the first day, all of the second, and most of the third. This will be my first trip there, and our first cruise. I'm with family so I'll probably get to spend only one of those days birding, maybe part of another day. I'm not looking for particular species; I'm more of a 'happy with whatever shows up' style of birder.
First, please recommend a field guide so I can get that ordered.
Next, any recommendations for a birding service that does day trips, preferably one that will pick up from Royal Naval Dockyard / Kings Wharf? The cruise doesn't offer any birding-specific excursions.
Lacking any recommended services, are the hotspots within a couple of miles of the dock (Somerset Village and Hog Bay?) worth walking to? I see there's a ferry service to Hamilton or Camden; are there shuttles or taxis to get from there to Spittal Pond?
Thanks for any suggestions!
