Bots

Post by Lonestranger »

Are the bots that we see listed as Registered users at the bottom of the Index Board cause for concern? I can imagine Bing and Google bots benefiting the site with search results, but I can also imagine some bots having a negative effect on the site. With the multitude of various bot names I have noticed over tiime, I can't help but think that most of them would be unwelcome. Are they okay to ignore or have they slipped past the defenses and should be reported?

Any bot that announces itself as such I think is a webcrawler for a search engine. And though they are listed as "Registered Users", they aren't actually members. I don't think they can do anything other than read the forum and gather data. I think I could deny access to them through forum options, but wouldn't.

I suspect the 5 most recent registrant requests, 3 of which I activated, are spambots. I'll just keep an eye on them.
