Help with a cuckoo

Post by Sbruenjes »

I saw this bird today at South Mountain Reservation in Essex County, NJ. I think its the black-billed cuckoo, but maybe the lighting is off, and I did get some clear shots of a yellow billed cuckoo nearby, so I'm not certain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd probably call this Yellow-billed.

Sadly, yes, Yellow-billed, you can even see the yellow of the lower mandible when you zoom in a little bit.

What's depressing about it? You've inspired me to select that bird for elsewhere on the forum today (hint, hint).

Oh, I like Yellow-billed Cuckoos, but but getting a Black-billed would undoubtedly be a neat find
