Sunflowers

Post by Lonestranger »

We've had some pretty good luck growing sunflowers the last few years, but I think this year's plants are on the exceptional side, some standing as tall as the house they grow in front of. Usually we just grab a few seeds from the bag of BOSS and shove them in the ground but our plants got an early start indoors this year, with seeds we harvested from last year's plants, two new firsts for us. Some plants have multiple flowers and others just have one big flower, the biggest flower measuring just over a foot in diameter, and the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are quite fond of them all, even the orange flowers. We'll be sure to collect more seeds for next year, who knows, maybe the next generation will be even bigger and heartier than this year's.
